Last summer we converted part of my office into a homeschooling area for the girls as we begin hands-on instruction this fall.
I took my curtains down while I was painting, and even though I carefully laid them over a couch so they wouldn't wrinkle, they were still full of wrinkles when I hung them back up!
I love my floor length ombre curtains, but they wrinkle easily and are a little hard to keep straight. I used to just hang them up and hope the wrinkles would go away over time, but that doesn't work very well.
There must be a better way!
Can you iron curtains?
If ironing curtains seems like a chore, that's because it is! To iron curtains, you need to remove them from the curtain rod and find a flat work surface.
Most curtains are too large to fit properly on a traditional ironing board. Even parts of the curtain that are already ironed can wrinkle again if you move the curtain to work on it in another place.
Finally, ironing can flatten pleated curtains and make them look unsightly. Upgrading your curtains is a task in itself!
For these reasons, iron curtains are definitely not the most practical option.
3 ways to remove wrinkles from curtains (and which ones work best)
Wash and dry curtains – Depending on the length of your curtains and the material used, this may or may not be an option. Always check the washing instructions to see if your curtains are machine washable or can only be dry cleaned.
Use a Steamer – To do this, you'll need to purchase a handheld steamer if you don't already have one. The advantage is that you can steam curtains while hanging. However, acquisition costs are important. Some steamers also recommend hiring a partner to tighten the curtains while steaming. The work should therefore be carried out by two people.
Wrinkle Remover Spray – A wrinkle remover spray softens fabric fibers so that wrinkles disappear or are easier to iron. Of all the methods listed here, this one is the clear winner in my opinion because it's super easy and only takes a few minutes. Our favorite product is Tom & Sheri's Iron in a Bottle.
